I AM A SAFE PLACE is a faith based charitable organization Anchored in Truth, Hope, Love, Community committed to providing a safe, empowering, and supportive community environment through a network of support services in a judgment free zone. We engage with Nature and Creativity using Holistic Modalities to facilitate emotional healing and empowerment and thus reconnect with other survivors as well as larger community while raising awareness, prevention, and increasing community involvement on Domestic Violence (DV), Intimate Partner Violence (IPV),Teen Dating Violence (TDV), and the stigma associated with trauma. We believe Affordable housing IS a safe place.

When people are faced with a domestic violence situation, one of the most commonly asked questions is “Why don’t they leave?” According to HUD, fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence is defined as homelessness. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced the brutality of domestic violence. It takes an average of 7 times to leave an abuser, each time becoming more dangerous. It is impossible to discuss domestic violence without acknowledging its connection to housing instability. Leaving an abusive relationship is not a single event. It is a process. This process is different for everyone. Ending an abusive relationship does not mean the end of abuse. 

57% of women who are homeless attributed domestic violence as primary reason for their homelessness. This percentage increases to 80% if the woman has a child in her care. Often, abusers cut off ties to a victim’s support system by cutting them off from friends and family who might be able to offer support. Affordable housing crisis; but what about affordable housing crisis for those in trauma and crisis- specifically, survivors of domestic violence? What we do know is when survivors FEEL supported, they are more likely to FEEL strong enough to take the steps to keep themselves safer.

Unfortunately Domestic Violence is an area where awareness, education, and support is limited. I AM A SAFE PLACE, is making a kingdom impact thru transforming lives by taking it back to the garden within. Welcome to The Beautiful Healing Garden where we discover that emotional health is wellness and empowerment. Where is the garden planted? In the soil of our hearts. What makes the soil fertile? Faith, hope, love, community. How do we keep the soil fertile? By cultivating our emotional well being. What is emotional well being? Our capacity and willingness to be aware of, acknowledge, and understand the emotions we experience. What happens when we cultivate our emotional well being? We sustain and nourish the garden (our heart) cultivating empowerment from within.
